“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His Righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
– Matthew 6:33KJV
Where does the time go? Even when we have long days at work, or a nice long relaxing weekend, we can always look back and say “I can’t believe the week has flown by!” During this rapid time warp, our schedules are cram packed with work, school, after school activities, sports, shopping, cooking, packing lunches, maybe exercising, this kid has this, that kid has that, THEN we incorporate church service, sunday school, Wednesday night bible study, choir practice, and maybe if there is time left over (haha!), our personal worship and study time.
Have you ever been at the point in your daily or weekly grind that you realize that somewhere along the way you hit the auto pilot button? It’s not something you meant to do, it just kind of…. happened. I have to confess, God has recently opened my eyes to the fact that I have been on autopilot FOR SOME TIME NOW. Simply going through the motions and checking it off my list for the week. I have taken my eyes off of what really mattered and become fixated on my self, my life, and my personal struggles. I had let Satan use this to suck every ounce of joy out of what God has for me to do.
I think we are all guilty of this at some point ( sometimes even multiple points) in our lives. We say we love God and we want to serve him, but our lives are so full of other things, we are to exhausted to do what God has called us to do. God put us here for one purpose, his purpose. In the hustle and bustle of what we call “life”, we forsake the one who gives us life everyday!
It is time for us to put down the our distractions, and seek God first. I am talking about skipping hitting the snooze button and getting up to spend time with God, setting a rule in your family to skip Wednesday night sports practice because you are going to spend time with God as a family, or put the same umph into your Sunday morning corporate worship that you do into your celebration at the ball park.
I am working on this each day because I don’t want to be distracted from anything God wants me to do for him. I want God to restore the joy in my service to him, and the only way He can do this is if I drop the distractions and truly seek him first.
