“And he said unto me, Son of man can these bones live? And I answer O Lord God, though knowest.” – Ezekiel 37:3
Have you ever read the passage of Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones? If you have not, you can read it In Ezekiel 37:1-14; it is an incredible, inspiring passage of scripture. This is one of the many times the we find the Isrealites, how shall we say, in a despairing time of life. The prophet Ezekiel was carried away in the Spirit of the Lord and was sat down in the middle of a valley of old dried up bones. God asks Ezekiel if he thinks the bones can live? Ezekiel responds that only God knows. God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones to rise up and the flesh to come on them and the breath to come in them for them to live. Ezekiel prophesies to the bones, and a great army arises in this valley. This was a prophecy of the restoration that God would send to His people.
So many times today we can compare ourselves step for step with the Isrealites. We all have times in our life when we are not walking in the will of God. Maybe we are walking there now? In the dark place of dispair. Where we know in our head we should follow God, but our actions and our heart reflects right the opposite. Our bones are as dry as the bones Ezekiel saw in the valley. There was no hint of life in them. As far as man is concerned there is no possible way life could ever return.
But God told Ezekiel to tell the bones to get up! God is calling out to our bones each and every day. He breaths his breath in us to perform the miracle of, not just natural life, but spiritual life. In the last few verses of this passage, God tells Ezekiel that He will give them His Spirit, and they (the Isrealites) will live and know that He is God!
Are you standing at a place in your life where your bones are dried up, lifeless, and no hope of ever living again? God is calling to you to rise up! His calling you out of the ashes to be restored with His Spirit. Can your dry bones live? YES THEY CAN!!! God’s grace and love that conquers all pain and hurt and dispair is running through your vains.
So here you stand in the valley, and the tendon and flesh have covered your bones. It is up to you now…. will you breathe in the breath of God and allow it to restore your life?
Dear God- I thank you for breathing life into my powder dry bones. I thank you for not forsaking me, even when I thought you had. Your love endures through all things! Please help me to take my place in that great army that you rose up, and to continue to breathe you in; all the way to the bottom of my lungs.
